Finding Zen

Life can be overwhelming at times. With the never ending cycle of activity, or with non existent pace of the surroundings;  finding peace, finding tranquility, finding your inner voice can be something that is crucial to make life itself easier and happier.

“You should sit in meditation for twenty minutes a day – unless you’re too busy, you should sit for an hour.”

-Old Zen Adage

Little Bit of London

My last assignment for the term was submitted at 9.20 PM on 10 May, and it just seems so funny how on 9.21 my life instantly became so much brighter. On that day too i went to Scarborough with a group of really great friends and enjoyed a good day out on the beach. I went barefoot on 12 degrees, but who cares really. Bitches be like blowing bubbles and making sandcastle; which turns out to be sandman with weirdly shaped boobs.

The next day we visited Chatsworth House, nothing really special, except we just had to eat ice cream in the rain. Mmhmm. On Monday we went to Tissington to see the Well Dressings and continued with a walk to Dovedale. It was a beautiful walk on a springtime. Really worth the 2 hours boots dragging for a view of great nature.

Also visited London for a few days, weather was so lovely and cooperative that it contributes to why the trip was fun. Managed to take a day to walk slowly in Regent’s Park and enjoy the quaint view. We stayed at YHA St. Pancras and made new friends from China, stumbled upon some “problems” during our stay, but overall it was quite fun. That’s the thing about staying in hostel i suppose; you pay for what it’s worth and it’s probably unreasonable to complain much.

Off to some visuals.

Camden Lock/Stables Market. Great markets for vintage, antique and creative arts. Most things are bargain-able, but lots of the stalls at front sells mainstream tourists merch with London/LDN/Union jack pasted everywhere. Go for the inner par of the markets to find independent brands stalls. That’s where the treasure lies.

Managed to catch Kings of Convenience live after battling for the tickets on eBay (you might notice them from the previous post). So worth it, especially being at the very front. Funny enough that I came an hour before the venue opens and I was still capable on being a front row. The venue was gorgeous and exudes such intimate atmosphere when the duo sang in perfection. Love them love them love them.

Primrose Hill/ Regent’s Park. The best day to spend a full force spring sunshine weather. Unfortunately I didn’t manage to see Gwyneth Paltrow jogging around; as some people quoted luckily.

Harrod’s and Covent Garden. Was thoroughly impressed by the window display that matched the release of The Great Gatsby during our visit. Whether it was sponsored or was initiated by the department store, it was a clever and successful marketing. Also Yoda floating in Covent garden I met.

The last full day on London was focused on.. well. Retail therapies. Ha. We’re still girls after all. That would explain the lack of picture for this particular day. Oxford St on Friday was packed and in the midst of women stuffing their faces in Zara’s new S/S ’13 collection, I met Draco Malfoy (yes, the slytherine guy) shopping with his mum and tried his best to avoid eye contact with people. I literally needed to rudely check him out;if that’s the appropriate word, to make sure he was the real deal. The problem with moi was I could only associate him as Draco, I couldn’t pull up the string of what his real name was, hence I couldn’t ask for a picture. Well, shit. Anyway i think he left with nobody knowing he was there, and gave me a smile when I was stoned with my eyes drilled at him while holding a pair of jeans. His real name is Tom Felton.

That’s a pretty hectic itinerary for someone who’ve just finished their assignment, don’t you think?

Talk to you lots soon. xo

8:01 PM

It’s May and life has been fast forwarding itself too often these days. Spring seems to be short lived by summer with the ever increasing temperature. I love to be reminded of how the weather is amazingly gorgeous when it’s 8.30 PM and the sky is bright yellow by sunset. I once woke up from a nap at 9 and took a nasty express bath afraid of being late to lecture, only to realize it’s night time. Not that I’m complaining, 15 hours of sun is certainly a bliss to be grateful for.

Which is why I dread doing my work even more. It’s always the day when the sun shines so perfectly and you have to be locked down to your desk together with piles of paper, giving up the thoughts of laying down in green grass with soft ice cream in left and IQ 84 in right hand.

Wait. Did i just complain about assignments? Ooooh yes the day has finally come when I return to let my brain work ‘critically’. Admittedly a lot of things was not easy to deal with at first, sometimes I would just sigh and let my ego took the best out of me when the overwhelming task comes to view. But really though, was it that hard? I should be so lucky of the freedom we are allowed to adopt in creating the paper work. If anything, I’ll probably slam my own self for not starting early. Eh.

Yesterday was the last day of university for this term. And on the last day itself i learned that my uni doubles as a decent dance floor when an event took place. It was drunk fueled with people having fun and being emotional about their next term. How you should worry about your dissertations now, good luck in finding jobs, and deal with the real world very soon. Sometimes I wonder if we actually live in Teletubbies world all this time. Nah it was a fun night. Watching my Event Module lecturer dance her way amongst the student and blinding disco lights was also an extraordinary experience.

Anyhow, I can’t wait for this week to be over with. At least with my papers submitted well and swell.

Boom there goes my face for ya.
Lady Cave is a term I learnt from a random Instagram comment to call your room. Just priceless.
Anyway it was a great fun pimping up my room here and alas!! My lady cave is now suited to my liking lol. I haven’t got my own room for like 6 or 7 years? (Always sleeps with Mum back home) So I think I’m just so excited to do things like this yikes.
A lot of stuffs from the room are from Amazon actually.
For example; the silly lady sign on the first picture is bought off this store. Brilliant stuffs. Never fails to make me smile every time i see it. Then the garland and white voile curtain which is only 5 pounds, great bargain one would say? And the fairy lights! All from the magical land of Amazon :D
I feel like my wall could use a little decoration on it, so I printed out my Quote of The Days doodle (this post) through a company called Inkifi. Super impressed by the quality of the printings and decided to print out some of my personal Instagram pictures to hang as well. Now my friends and dogs can watch me sleep every night. <3
Tuesday is so very peaceful today and thus this post came up. Oh yeah quiz time; does anybody know what song is the writings on my wall from? :p
That’s about all. Hope you enjoyed it and tell me what you lots think? :D
Bye bye! xx

Peacetime Resistance

Feeling the comfort of eyes is your sole intention
We all wanna be understood unconditionally
But you have to realize that a viewer needs distance
And the moment your wall melts down the inside is outside

Maybe way back in the past, when people were different
Shortening bonds made them last
Now we emphasize our difference
We have been enrolled one by one for peacetime resistance
And we’re fighting our battles alone

We’ve got four eyes, so why yearn for one perspective?
We’ve got colours with shades erased when blended
We’ve got four eyes, so why yearn for one perspective?
We’ve got colours, but they disappear when blended

Buxton, Derbyshire

Getting overwhelmed by the pace of life recently. Almost two months residing in the UK, finally getting used to things and weather.. God knows why my sinusitis miraculously managed to survive through thick snow and wind here. Uni has been great and homework is (finally) coming into my life again after years. Not sure whether to feel excited or not about that.

Life here is peaceful, serene, and tranquil. The total opposite of bustling Singapore. In my town there’s no grandeur shopping mall or a commercial cinema. Probably explains why it’s very quiet here. If feeling a little bit town-ish that day, we need to ride train or bus to the neighboring town and spend a whole day there. Saying I don’t miss the metropolitan life in Singapore would be a total BS, considering friends and everything familiar is scattered within distance there. Homesick is inevitable for us international students. 7 hours of time difference doesn’t make things easier too.

But then again, time makes things goes by. Missing things isn’t a bad thing. It just serves as a reminder that you had a great time back there. Thus I’m striving to be grateful thoroughly of what I have now. It all starts with the little things, really. I love how people are so friendly in my town. I love my University. I love the cakes here! I love jacket potatoes and beans. I love tea now, it’s getting to me so bad I have to drink a cuppa everyday. I love charity shoppings, so cheap to the point I can’t believe it. I love the fact I have my own room now, which I crazy decorated with stuffs. I love looking at caucasian toddlers everywhere. I love the parks and gardens here. I love the weather, I honestly don’t miss the scorching hot tropical sun so much. I love how I live in such close proximity to big towns where all the happenings happened. So many things I love in UK, but I suppose it’s still too early to say I love UK in whole. We’ll keep that for future reference. :’)

And yeah, I’ve been adjusting, and I still am adjusting. I bet there’s still so many things to discover in near days, so I’ll try my best to keep this space alive. Though it’s not easy in so many circumstances.. (eep excuses here we go)

Talk to you loves soon. x :)
