Ōsaka 2015

*warning : heavy images post ahead!*

Oh hiya!

About 12 months ago I decided I had no time and willingness to write on this space any longer. Because a lot of things happened and time mercilessly flowed through everything in between. There’s so much events to sum up and stories to tell, but i will draft another post for another day. Before all that, just to make this blog slightly alive again, here’s a travel diary to a country which I fell in love with when I first visited in 2013, and undoubtedly made me love it even more the second time I step foot on it. One of the reason that made me want to write here again is the urge for me to record in details of things that I did there. It’s a great thing to be able to recount your memories, step back in time when you needed a break and use it as a reminder to always be grateful for places you’ve been and things you’ve seen.

Let’s kick things off with a little travelogue i made! (And if you like the song maybe replay it again while you read the post below :p)

The trip started out in Osaka on early April. The plan was to get to Japan in time for the cherry blossom season, and it was a crazy and stressful one week to try and sort out the accommodation there, because it was all sold out! We lucked out on Airbnb and managed to find a decent stay at the center of the city for 5 nights. We flew with Peach Airlines, a Kansai based budget airlines, from Hong Kong to Kansai. All set!!

Day 1 :

Night flight, transfer to accommodation, had a 12 midn supper at Matsuya and first experience with food vending machine.  Encountered the most patient and nicest waiter in the whole fast food restaurant chain.

Day 2 :

Starting our first proper day early morning to visit Osaka Castle for this beauty.

Was afraid that the flower pollens would make me allergic so I bought some allergic meds and masks, but everything turns out okay and i can confirm i am not allergic one bit. YAY. To be honest that day we lucked out so much on the weather and had the most perfect day to visit Osaka-jo Koen. Where it was supposed to rain on the weather forecast turns out to be a real sunny day. Too sunny one might say as I overdress myself a bit and slightly suffocated underneath the sweater. But it was still a wonderful day. Real good start for the trip!

Also visited the Osaka Museum of History, then headed to the shopping street for lunch (and some Takoyaki)!

Day 3 :

Basically a day for shopping and accommodation transfer. Off to Shinsaibashi and Namba.

Day 4 :

Starting the day really early to head to Kyoto, for yet another Sakura viewing session and oh boy was it a view..

It’s unreal, and tens of times prettier than what I’ve imagined it would be like. One of those places that you won’t be able to forget easily.

Continuing to Gion temple alleys and Kiyomizu-dera night festival. The temple usually closes at night, except for Spring Night opening that runs from end of March till mid April. It’s packed, but not too packed to the point you can’t see anything. Most of the buds weren’t open yet when we visited, but it was still beautiful to see the famous temple and its grandeur.

Finished off the day with dinner at local restaurant and headed back to Osaka.

Day 5 :

Universal Studio Japan!!

The Titans were Real™. And they were incredibly detailed asadacvhagadvjhvcd T_T  My biggest regret ever in this trip (other than not taking picture with Sailor Uniform Uncle in Tokyo, details coming up on the next post) , was being unable to go on the Titans attraction. It was a timed ticket and i was late to arrive at the area and there goes my opportunity to see it. Stalked some people and it was meant to be like a mini museum inside and there’s supposedly Levi and Mikasa life sized figure wtf T_T goddammit GODDAMMIT pissed beyond belief at myself. Also the Survey Corpse cloaks i wanted so bad were sold out. *incomprehensible cries*

If you have a chance to go to USJ, this temporary exhibition is available until 10th of May. And maybe do those things I couldn’t. I think i kind of scared/gross out the cousins by being such an otaku -_-

also i included a bonus of Attack on Titan Live Action trailer here, just to add more excitement lol

Processed with VSCOcam with f3 presetHarry Potter world was pretty cool too. andddd bought professor Dumbledore’s wand for i don’t know what and will 100% be sitting at the cabinet collecting dust. But you just had to buy it… you know.. consumerism… ehm.

Processed with VSCOcam with f1 presetNight parade, private night parade actually. The parade was circling the park even though there were no visitors at all at some spot. Bizarre and awesome at the same time.

And after that, went to the station and waited for the train to come. That’s when my life got messed up 7 different ways as the craziest, most painful (and embarrassing) menstrual pain kicked in. I had to squat down for a good 10 minutes with tears streaming down my face and proceed to walk like an 80 years old grandmother about to give birth anytime. Then we made it back to apartment and I passed out pronto. To the cousins, if you’re reading this, I’m terribly sorry for being such a pain in the ass.(no pun intended.. maybe a bit)  T___T

Day 6 :

Final Day in Osaka! Not much to do, but I was catching the Shinkansen to Tokyo later in the afternoon. Before that, went for a final omiyage shopping and lunch, still with my annoying severe cramps. Later in the afternoon, the cramp wasn’t getting any better so I went inside a drugstore and bought a pain reliever. Couldn’t read Japanese but it was meant to be especially for menstrual pain. I took a pill…. and see what happened in my next post.

That’s about it for Osaka. Phew that was real long post that took a long time to write too! Almost forgot how good it feels to finish a blog post and seeing it displayed on the space. *pats back* Tokyo 2015 is coming and I don’t know yet if I’m gonna be able to fit all in one post 0_0 Bear with me while I try to put things in order!

Until Tokyo!

The Big Two

Happy Birthday to me.

This year, I can probably say I celebrated my birthday one day earlier by going to the Universal Studios Singapore with friends. Best thing : Tickets cost $6. Best thing 2 : No queues. At all. For real. Best thing 3 : I RODE A ROLLER COASTER! I conquered the chicken side of me and positioned my butt on that red hot seat, and my world went all upside down. Literally freaking upside down, tossed and turned like a slab of bacon in a pan. But boy was it good. And I am proud to say I have rode an outdoor roller coaster (and will gladly do it again) on my teen days. On my very last (nine)teen  day, to be exact. I wonder what took me so long.

I was immensely grateful and happy yesterday, today and hopefully tomorrow. I am grateful of my friends, my girls, my family, my colleagues and every single one of my facebook friends whom a lot I do not recognize at all that takes a little out of their time    to type me well wishes.

Birthday makes you do a lot of thinking, rewinding and missing people. Thoughts like “Where/how/with whom did I celebrate my birthday years ago” “Oh my God has it really been so long” “I wish I can go back and hug those people again” etc etc. And I love how technology (re : facebook) brings up flocks of old friends to come and pop the refresh button in my head, and I just went all nostalgic with the fellow again. I guess that’s just one of the special stud about birthday; it gives you the chance to sip that cup of memories with some sprinkle of love and smiles.

Nineteen birthdays and I have only so much beautiful memories and fruitful setbacks.  Through the tides and turns of every event I was graced by the existence of my friends and family, whom I will never ever tire to say how grateful I am to have. I don’t have any significant other and to be frank; I hardly have the time to wish I had one. My life is already significantly awesome with the way it is, and I can’t even thank Universe enough for giving me what I have. I mean, I would probably take back whatever I have typed once I found someone. But I’ll take care of it later. I wanted to speak as of right now. As a genuinely happy twenty year old ladywoman who wants to try taking the world seriously, and promising herself to be a better person in and outside, and to thoroughly practice gratitude in every moments of life. Go!

This is the letter The Universe gave me today. :)

It’s so going to be my year! :))

Be blessed, lovely souls!

What To Expect When You’re Expecting

…expecting a great month, that is. Don’t get all the weird ideas flowing in your head.

So here we are, on the top of September. New month ready to start fresh and spirited.. But before we get any further, what WAS on August?

Well, I was proud of myself of the last 31 days. Proud as in not arrogant-proud, but more of a grateful-proud. You’ll see why. Basically, I live more consciously. I exercised a bunch more often, like twice or thrice a week. Short 30 minutes run and a 10 minute steam bath, no excuses even after I finished a tiring day and knocked off work at 8PM. Not to specifically accomplish any goal, but mainly to just do my body a favor by keeping it good for the long run. Pfftt.

And then, I ate more humbly. To be specific, I lessen my carbs intake and almost rarely had heavy dinner. I did not touch any Fast Food or any instant noodle(for real; not even a pack), I turned my direction towards yummy yoghurts with plenty choices of toppings. To sum it up, I ate healthily.

I also did not use any curse words during those 31 days. Not even a single F-word, D-word, S-word. I learned to be careful with words and to speak by my logic instead of anger. I was patience with my surroundings, call it a rush hour traffic jams, screaming babies, and varieties of attitudes from people. Of course this is not to say August is a trouble-free month. I’ve had ups and downs as equally frustrating at times, but I did not let myself go deep down to self-destruct for long. I happened to manage to stay in circle with grace and love.

All of the above, all of the great commitments I put myself through for the last month, has really taken me by surprise. Why? Because most of them is not even planned for. I was only promising myself to exercise regularly, and eat more consciously. I did not set any limits to not take any junk foods or to not curse/tweet bad words, in fact I would never had imagine myself not stuffing myself with Instant Noodle for a month. But when I evaluated the status that I was at in the middle of the month, only then I realized that I have been indirectly directing myself to a better me. It’s really funny isn’t it? The more you feel grateful of what is in yourself, the more the uni-verse gave you bonuses. Can I get an Amen for that? Winning.

I do not intend to make any promises that I cannot keep. So in the next months ahead, I wouldn’t say I can fulfill everything I’ve done on August. But commitments of such is not the only thing to improve oneself right? I believe that so long as I keep my way straight and believe in what’s best for me self, I am already a better me. :)  So thank you, August. Thank you so very much for being such a fruitful month where I introspected myself more than anytime. See you soon.

Ah my God, yabba-dabbido whee we were talking about September, right…? Yeah I strayed way back to just remind myself in the future for these rare accomplishments. *grin*

The World As I See It

Resuming back to routine again, or should I say.. adjusting back to routine. We all have the holiday blue, don’t we? I suppose it’s just a matter of time until I finally stop thinking of the other part of the world.

Anyway, just an update, I have emailed London Heathrow lost and found department about my lost phone. Crossing my finger if someone could be kind enough to return my lost phone. It has been 3 days since they last replied my email to ask further about the phone, and I’m not even sure if I can really get it back. Just hoping for the best, really.

During the holiday I was using Dad’s phone to capture everything interesting. I’m actually using Instagram to edit and share my pics there. So if you follow my Instagram (@Jennifrlim), you’d probably seen most of the pics below. I’m not posting the camera pics as I personally think it’s too ‘heavy’ to fit in the blog. So if you are keen to see the 300+ raw pics from my camera, please head to my Facebook. (available for friends to view only) :)

Prepare for the longest photo post in the history of this blog!

The leaning Pisa tower, the only picture taken in Italy. seeing people posing here.. truly joy. lol

Innsbruck, Austria. Probably my favorite town of all the places.. Why? The atmosphere there is magical. Looks like a city out a fairytale. I guess you need to be there to know better. :)

Houses at Innsbruck.Colorful much? And look at the mountains spreading out behind the houses!

Road to Luzern, Switzerland. truly land of pampered cow! No wonder they have amazing dairy products, the producers live in such happy place.

Easter in Luzern, Switzerland. The two giant easter chocolate was given to me and my sister by our tour guide. How thougtful!

Breakfast at hotel. What we ate for breakfast everyday. Yum for the first week, and you’ll start missing Nasi Lemak / Fried Bee Hoon latter.

Cuckoo clock shop. Luzerne, Switzerland

View from cable car to Mt. Titlis. Congratulations! I have finally saw, touched, felt and ate snow! IT WAS FREEZING but amazing.

Novelty shop in Liechtenstein. Noticed that German people loves 9GAG, AND boobs. lol they literally sell postcards of success kid, forever alone, and nude pics.

me & sis. she hates to camwhore. don’t ask me why.

Random flowers on gas station. So we basically went to each places by coach, which means we also went to plenty gas stations. Best part of it was to drink a cuppa hot soup bought from vending machine, and strolled around the supermarket to see different products they have on each country. Cold pasta and cup fruits were popular!

Limitless Sky. What makes the sky in Europe so darn beautiful? i can’t even count how many pictures of sky i took on the trip. It just seemed so endless, blue, sometimes gray, happy and sad at the same time. Beautiful.

Garden view from  Hotel. this was taken on 7AM. was sleepy and right away energized when i saw this view..

Peach and Brogues

Sunrise. Was thrilled to have the sun in your body over there. Felt so warm and nice, soothed right to the bone.

Road to France.. Endless flower field

One of the things i always found at gas stations

Eiffel from afar.. I was sleeping on the road to Paris, then people in the bus started making noise and cameras start clicking. I woke up to find that we arrive in Paris, and on my right hand side, i can already see the Eiffel Tower towering so mighty beyond any building. You know that feeling when you watch a Disney movie and finally they had their happy ending, it felt warm and fuzzy, and sorta surreal.

Keychains. Who are you kidding me. I bought 10 of these for 1 euros, and foolishly thought this was enough. Now that I’m back, I think I need to go back and snug in 5 more Euros. And I also thoroughly regret for not buying the 15cm Eiffel Tower. Sucks.

Friends from my tour, and yup. This 15 cm Eiffel tower. T.T

Chateau de Versailles. I was following a tour by a Hong Kong travel agency, so you go figure the language they use to conduct the tour. Cantonese. Basically all the tours (yes ALL) was conducted in Cantonese, so i barely understand anything. Dad was too irritated to explain every single word to me so I just stay still and well duh, got busy with my own world. Including in this Palace of Versailles tour.

Galleries La Fayette. The irony is we didn’t went here. We just went to the Tour Montparnasse, and to the shopping mall next to it; Printemps. To be honest, I was kind of disappointed with the Paris itinerary. We didn’t go to Eiffel Tower (which results we went ourselves to during our short free time), we was really really rushed to see things. No more complaints, maybe they are meant to be seen next time around.

Khaki and brogues. Average temperature in Paris was 15 degree, but i kind of ran out of attire so I needed to wear these khakis. They were comfortable but very cold-prone. Thank God I wore a thick knit behind it.
Laduree Macarons. This was bites of heaven. Enough said.
Laduree Cakes. Only that their prices were not that ‘heaven’.
More Laduree. The packages were beautiful!
Laduree Stall @ Printemps. I haven’t got the chance to visit Maison Laduree at Rue Champ Ellyses, as I mentioned how little time I had in Paris. But well at least some bites of its macarons filled my curiosity of the famous pastry.
Pug @ Printemps. You can always bring your dog to shop in shopping malls. No, I trust the dogs won’t bite off/ pee / poo the displayed Coach bags and all.. no..
Peony & Moss by Jo Malone. It was originated from London, but I bought it in Paris because this is sold out in London. Question; where do I find my second bottle once this is done for? *yes, i’m obsessed with this scent*
Paris street view. Taken on the morning when about to leave Paris.
Godiva shop in Brugge, Belgium. I’d never buy any Godiva crazy overpriced chocs in Singapore / Indonesia. But when you get there and the price was broke down to 12 euros/box..
Brugge, Belgium. Brugge was a small city filled with traditional charms.. I love the buildings here.
Boat Ride at Brugge’s river. Took a boat ride for 7.5 euros in our free time. I almost can’t believe it when I saw all the geese flocking around in that specific green patch. Odette! Where are you??
Chocolates from Brugge. I don’t think I wanted to buy the penis shaped chocolate. Nobody would like to eat those. lol.
Manneken Pis at Brussels, Belgium. Famous landmark of Brussels
Fraise Au Chocolate. Strawberries dipped in original Godiva milk chocolate? YES10000X please!
Waffle stall. Waffles displayed here are all edible. nom!
Brussels street
Hello again, hehe.
Floriade Venlo, Netherlands. the most boring part of the trip i must say.. haha nothing much to see here except you are plant lovers. yes plant. flowers? little.
Yellow Tulips at Floriade Venlo
Windmill at Amsterdam. Amazing weather we got here.
Almost last day. Outfit worn to catch a flight to London.
Telephone boxes in London, UK. The only shot from London that managed to get in to Instagram. Because the phone was dead.
And finally, it’s time to fly back. These two daughters were literally snoring when the dad took pic. Hahaha.
Polaroids Memories. Brought 5 boxes for e trip, only 60% of it was decent shots. Some were blurry, furry, horrid expression, etc. :p
Okay so sleepy right now. Summarization : Best trip ever. :) Thanks Daddy, we love you.
Type soon.
*All pictures in this blog post were taken by me. Please link me back or credit me if you want to use it. :)*

Carousel Day

Blogging from Marina Bay Sands Hotel room. Should sleep about right now since I have to wake at 4.. but the mind just can’t shut down. Guess I’ll just sleep on plane. Leaving for Hong Kong tomorrow morning , and off for an Europe trip with dad on Monday. Excited much! :) Have been working like one crazy girl, so I guess I deserve a little break..  I just hope I didn’t leave any mess behind on work. Phew. If I can find some wi-fi connections during trip, maybe I’ll try to blog from phone. I’ve prepared a travel diary though! Hehehe I’m too happy to be able to go for the trip. All the hardworks and sweats doing the visas, the anxiousness of waiting the result, etc. It’s paid off :))

-Wait for more travel stories week ahead? Until then, happy holiday for moi! :)
